Make sure your Wi-Fi is on, as some laptops have a button that turns it off.
Check Device Manager for problems with your wifi card. Make sure you installed the correct driver(s).
Do you have a Wi-Fi network, or are you trying to hack in someone else's one?
Try to use an external wireless adapter and see if it works.
If you have a wireless router, setup a different channel for your network.
Make sure your router and your Wi-Fi adapter support the same protocols. If your wireless card supports an older protocol and your wireless router has a new one (not compatible), or the other way around, your router will be unable to work.
